Abstract
This clinical study is designed for comparing age and sex distribution, clinical symptoms and
findings of 12 cases of Wilms¢¥ tumor which were treated at the department of general surgery of
Taegu Prebyterian Medical Center from January 1960 to January 1970 with that of others from
the world medical literature.
The eight cases (66.6%), out of the total were below the age of 3 years and the male and
female ratio of the group was 2:3. Their clinical symptoms and signs were as follows: abdominal
mass, in all cases, abdominal distention or enlargement in 75%, weight loss in 66.6%, high fever
in 66.6%, and loss of appetite in 66.6%.
The preoperative studies consisted mostly of routine urinarysis, BUN, and intravenous as well
as retrograde pyelography when indicated.
Seven cases out of the total were treated by surgery and one of this group had had postoperative
radiation. The authors aimed also at finding proper explanations for Wilms¢¥ tumor accompanying
hypertensive tendency and trying to co-relate this with postoperative prognostic evaluation preoper
atively, but failed to arrive at any conclusive evidence to support their emphasis.
They failed also to follow their cases postoperatively in order to compare the results of their
treatment, particularly with radiation combination either preoperatively or postoperatively.
